What you will see at the Tonasket site: 8th leaf free standing central leader Golden Russet Bosc on the following rootstocks: OHxF 87, OHxF 40, Fox 11, Fox 16, Pyrodwarf, Pyro 2-33, or 708-36. Production on free-standing trees of 40 - 50 Bins/A in 6th year. 8th leaf free standing Bartlett on Pyrodwarf or Pyro 2-33. Trees fruiting very well. 5th leaf Golden Russet Bosc on Horner 4, OHxF 87, BM-2000, BU-3, Pyrodwarf, or Pyro 2-33, and Bartlett on Horner 4. Most of these are trained on a 4-wire upright trellis. What you will see at the Cashmere site: 8th leaf Bartlett on OHxF 87, Pyrodwarf or Pyro 2-33; good fruit set. Green D’Anjou, 8th year, on the following rootstocks: OHxF 87, OHxF 40, Fox 11, Fox 16, Pyrodwarf, Pyro 2-33, or 708-36; poor fruit set.

Directions to the Tonasket (Bosc) Site of the Pacific Northwest Pear Rootstock Trial: From Wenatchee to site: 122 miles, about 2 hours and 15 to 30 minutes travel time. Cross the bridge, and turn right (North) at the “T” intersection onto the Janis-Oroville Westside Road. Go about 4 miles to Sylvester Road (on your left). Turn left (West) on Sylvester Rd., in about 1/4 mile, the road takes a sharp turn to the left. The young pear orchard to your right contains the pear rootstock trial and trellis pear demonstration. Please park on the road shoulder. The access road to the plot area is about 300 feet past the corner.
Directions to the Cashmere (D’Anjou) Site of the PNW Pear Rootstock Trial: From Wenatchee, go toward Cashmere on Highway 2/97. Watch for “The Anjou Bakery” on the left. Turn right off the highway on the exit across from the bakery, then right again onto Red Apple Road. The pear rootstock and horticulture trial are about 100 yards from the intersection, along the paved driveway on the left, just before you cross a small canyon. Please park on the shoulder of Red Apple Road, as space is very limited along the driveway. |
