WSU Extension Fruit Schools are intensive workshops, involving industry, research and Extension experts. The Schools are developed for fruit producers, orchard managers, crop consultants, and field staff.  The goal of these workshops is to transfer information generated by university, commission, and private industry experience to the fruit industry and to assist producers in implementing new technologies and methods into their production systems.

Competitive Orchard Systems are orchards that are designed to sustain a positive return on investment and generate income by:  

-producing and marketing only profitable fruit

-capitalizing on existing and evolving horticultural practices   

-increasing efficiencies in all aspects orchard
management.

Will define a Competitive Orchard System
in Terms of Economics

This workshop will be broken into three focus topics: Development and Implimentation of New Technology, Measuring/Monitoring Orchard Inputs/Response, and Orchard Establishment and Management. The Technology Economic Assessment Model (TEAM) will be used to evaluate the economic impact of major decisions and practices.

There is a registration fee of $75 per person in Wenatchee, $45 in Yakima (difference due to live presentations vs. interactive video*). Pre registration is required. Deadline for registration is January 22, 2008.

*Interactive Video. Those attending the Yakima session will see and hear exactly the same presentations as they occur, including an image of the presenter. There will be two-way communication for comments or questions. The major difference is that there will be no personal interation with the speakers. This is a test of this new technology, which may allow you to attend meetings more in your locality, without excessive travel cost.
