About the Master Gardeners
WSU Chelan County Master Gardener Volunteers like to get our hands dirty. We are group with diverse backgrounds who share a unifying interest in horticulture. Some of us are generalists and some have specialized interests and knowledge. We all are inquisitive, like to be around other gardeners, and love to share what we know. The Program promotes environmentally responsible gardening practices and addresses environmental and social priorities such as water conservation, the protection of water quality, reducing the impact of invasive species, and healthy living through gardening.
We each have completed a university course that covers topics such as botany, weed identification, soils, lawn care, pruning, pesticides and insect management, plant pathology and plant problem diagnosis.
We're centered in the Wenatchee valley and serve the entire Chelan & Douglas County area. Find us at activities such as:

Chelan County Master Gardener History
Chelan County offered the first Master Gardener Program for the Chelan-Douglas Area in 1996. Fourteen people were selected for training out of about 30 applicants. In 2005, the Master Gardeners served approximately 3,000 people at their Plant Clinics and classes, and donated over 4,500 hours to the program. In addition to the in-person assistance, the Master Gardeners provide gardening information through a newspaper column, radio show, and television appearances. In 2006, there are 55 active WSU Master Gardeners serving the Chelan and Douglas County areas. In 2007 approximately 70 volunteers provided nearly 5,000 hours of service.
