Diagnosis Clinics
Master Gardeners identify pests and plant problems and recommend solutions to manage them. Gardeners can bring their plant or pest problems to the Diagnosis Clinic held twice each week during the active growing season--generally March through October, and once per week off-season.
Plant Problems
Are your edges of your leaves curling and turning brown, or have black spots? Or are they yellowing mid-season? Is there a white powdery film on your perennials? Do the ends of you tomatoes or peppers turning soft and brown? Are there yellow or brown rings on your lawn?
Information is at hand to diagnosis what's ailing your plant. Microscopes or hand lens help reveal telltale symptoms. We'll advise if your problem needs immediate treatment, and provide printed material drawn from Washington State University Extension's online reference Hortsense.
Pest Problems
Are some of the needles on your evergreen tree brown? What are those scallops on your leaves? Are leaves getting pale and skeletal? What are those tiny specks on new growth?
We'll pull information for you from our resource library and from Washington State University Extension's online reference Pestsense to advise the best treatments for pests that damage your lawn and garden. We can send you home with detailed directions on when and how to treat the pests for best success.
We can tell you which insects are your garden's friends so you can invite more, which are its enemies, and which to tolerate.
Plant Information
Do you want information on water-wise and fire-wise plants? What's so good about drip irrigation, and what mulches work in your yard? How do you prune roses, shrubs and trees? When do you fertilize? What time of day and how often and long should you water?
Master Gardeners have personal experience and our office has reference materials to guide your decisions on plant selection for our climate and on effective gardening techniques.
