Chelan/Douglas 4-H Summer Forestry Projects
Longview Fibre Company Projects:

Tree Farm Project: Participants tour regional tree farms with Longview Fibre Company foresters learning about various tree species, how tree growth is measured, forest management practices, and product harvesting techniques. The tours include the observation of helicopter, "high line", and tractor logging operations on Longview Fibre properties.

Winton Mill Project: Participants learn about the operation of a "zero waste" lumber mill. This small log mill processes small diameter logs and materials that historically have been left on the forest floor after logging operations were completed. Due to technological advances these materials are now fully utilized reducing waste and fire load hazards in the forest. Mill operations employ the use of computer technology for sorting, measurement and processing of lumber products. The byproducts and waste generated through the production process are utilized for firing lumber drying kilns and generating electricity.
